Q1. What does Anvisit do? What is it useful for?
A1. Anvisit is a website analysis program that summarizes all the hits to given website and also reports on the arrival and movement within the website of all visitors that visited any given page on the site. It reports for each visitor whether that visitor went directly to the entry page or, if not, who the referrer was, and what search words were used if the referrer was a search engine. It furthermore reports what each visitor did after arriving at the site, tracking the vistor's movement within the site. At the same time, information about the exit page, and the amount of time spent on each page is provided.
Q2. What is special about Anvisit?
A2. Anvisit allows you to tailor it so as to produce an extremely informative report of web visits and hits. For example, it can be configured to ignore hits by whomever you desire, like yourself or others who may work on the website. It also can be configured to ignore "non-real" pages, such as "midis" that provide background sounds, etc. It also analyzes hits by bots (search engine robots) separately from hits by others, when desired. The most unique feature of anvisit is that it shows you exactly where your hits are coming from, even allowing you to view the webpages that referred visitors to your site.
Q3. What was new in version 0.8?
A3. Since version 0.8 it has been possible to view the pages from which your hits are coming. After listing the visits to one of your pages, double-clicking on the line that records the entry hit to that page launches your default browser for a visit to the referring page.
Q4. What is new in version 1.5?
A4. Version 1.5 does reverse name lookup effectively and has a
sophisticated wildcard comparison routine for selectively excluding "bots" and
unwanted URLs from the analysis.
Q5. What are the known issues in version 1.5?
A5. 1) Because of the plethora of search engines, Anvisit's algorithm for discerning the engine's search terms, may sometimes fail. 2) Anvisit can analyze hits by robots separately from other hits. However, it is impossible to have a complete listing of bots, as new ones appear continually. 3) Domain name lookup has been speeded up significantly, but is still somewhat on the slow side. Versions > 1.3 help resolve this problem by doing domain name lookup in background, when possible
