Initial configuration

The first thing you should do when using Emmesmail for the first time is to define a user profile for yourself.

In order to show that Emmesmail may be used by multiple users, it comes configured with three users, edit-me, user2, user3,. Edit-me has been pre-selected as the primary user, and clearly, the first time Emmesmail is used, you need to edit the edit-me entry to be appropriate for yourself. The user2 and user3 entries may be deleted, left as is, or edited as necessary for additional users. Information on adding, editing or deleting users is here.

A few more things must be configured before Emmesmail functions automatically.

If you do not pre-configure, before Emmesmail retrieves mail from a POP3 server for the first time, you will be prompted for information concerning the mail server, including the username/password combination for the email acccount and also the URL of the incoming-mail server. If you do not know this information, you usually can obtain it from your Internet Service Provider.

Emmesmail follows the POP-before-SMTP protocol for sending mail. This means that whenever you request Emmesmail to send mail, it first checks for incoming mail. This can confuse the first-time user. The first time you ask Emmesmail to SEND an email, it will ask you for information about your INCOMING-mail (POP3) server (if this has not been provided) before it asks you for information about your OUTGOING-mail (SMTP) server. Simply provide the information requested.
