When Emmesmail is asked to check for mail as a result of your clicking the "Check Now" button, it will open an Internet connection (using the default dialer) if an Internet connection is not already open, and it will leave the connection open when it is done and you exit the program.

On the other hand, when Emmesmail does a scheduled mail check, it opens an Internet connection if needed, but it does not necessarily leave the connection open when it is done. If Emmesmail finds no connection when it is scheduled to check for mail, it opens the default Internet connection and closes it when done. If it finds an open connection when it is scheduled to check for mail, it uses the open connection and does not close it when it is done checking. In other words, a scheduled mail check leaves the Internet connection exacly as it finds it.
