Emmesmail Help: Updating the spam hashfile

The Bayesian spam-rejection filter uses a hashfile. Writing the hashfile is very computation-intensive so that normally the hashfile only gets updated when Emmesmail is run between 1 AM and 4 AM.

If the hashfile does not exist, it will get written whenever it needs to be used, regardless of the time of day. Similarly, when Emmesmail is run between 1 AM and 4 AM and the hashfile exists, it is rewritten only when the valid-email and spam databases, from which the hashfile is derived, have changed from the time the existing hashfile was written.

Finally, if you think the hashfile should be updated, for example when Emmesmail hasn't checked for email between 1 and 4 AM, you may check the "Update Hashfile" checkbox in the main login screen and then press check now. If necessary, the hashfile will be updated, if necessary, after the mail is checked for.
